What are welding gloves?
Welding gloves are Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) used by welders and cutting‑process operators. They protect the hands, wrists and forearms covered by extended cuffs against multiple occupational hazards in welding and hot‑metal processing scenarios.
They normally provide the following protective performances:
- Thermal protection: against burn injuries caused by thermal radiation, welding sparks, molten‑metal spatter and high‑temperature workpieces
- Block ultraviolet and infrared radiant energy emitted by welding arcs
- Mechanical protection: against cuts, abrasions and puncture injuries caused by metal burrs and sharp edges
- Only limited incidental resistance to low‑level electric current
(Important note: standard welding gloves have no voltage rating and must never be used as a substitute for certified insulating gloves in live‑line electrical operations)
How Welding Gloves Protect Your Safety
High-Temperature & Burn Resistance
Crafted from premium leather with a flame-retardant, heat-insulating layer, these gloves effectively block intense heat during welding, preventing burns from direct contact with hot workpieces and shielding against thermal injury caused by arc radiation.
Metal Spatter Protection
The thickened leather effectively blocks high-temperature molten metal spatter, preventing slag from penetrating the glove and burning the skin, while also stopping slag from adhering to the surface and causing prolonged injury.
Cut & Tear Resistance
Constructed from thickened, abrasion-resistant leather with reinforced stitching, the gloves offer excellent cut and tear resistance, protecting against scrapes and cuts from sharp workpieces and edges during welding tasks.
Shock Absorption & Cushioning
The flexible leather structure compresses slightly upon impact to absorb shock and cushion the hand, all while maintaining dexterity and allowing for the precise handling of welding tools.
Reinforced Thumb-Index Webbing
An extra layer of leather reinforces the area between the thumb and index finger, enhancing abrasion and puncture resistance; this provides superior finger protection and extends the overall service life of the gloves.
Thickened Palm
A reinforced leather layer stitched onto the palm enhances puncture and shock resistance, improves wearing comfort, and ensures greater stability when gripping tools.
Comprehensive Protection
An extended cuff design covers the wrist and forearm, preventing welding spatter from entering the sleeve and providing full protection from fingertips to forearm.
The Difference Between Welding Gloves and Standard Protective Gloves
- Welding gloves: Primary function is heat‑resistance and flame retardancy. The leather material blocks high‑temperature sparks, molten slag splash and thermal radiation to prevent hand burns.
- General safety gloves: Only offer physical protection such as abrasion resistance, anti‑slip, cut resistance and oil resistance. They provide no heat‑insulating & flame‑retardant performance. Sparks or high‑temperature debris will burn through the glove easily, creating burn hazards.
- Welding gloves:Made mainly of full‑grain cow leather / split cow leather, match with flame‑retardant lining. Material must pass EN12477 welding fire‑resistant test.
- General safety gloves: Constructed from nylon, polyester, cotton yarn or standard nitrile. No fire‑resistant standards are required, most fabrics will catch fire or melt under high‑temperature sparks.
- Welding gloves: Arc welding, MIG/MAG welding, stick welding, casting work, hot metal handling and other high‑temperature hot‑work operations.
- General safety gloves: Non‑hot‑work operations including material handling, mechanical grinding, construction work and cargo loading‑unloading.
- Welding gloves: Even tiny burn holes, charred spots or cracks on the surface may cause heat injury. The gloves must be discarded immediately.
- General safety gloves: Can continue to be used with minor wear.

FAQ
Q1. Are welding gloves heat‑resistant for all welding jobs?
A: Not all styles. Light‑duty models suit light welding & general handling. For heavy‑duty welding, please choose thick leather with flame‑retardant lining.
Q2. Are welding gloves oil‑resistant?
A: Leather has moderate oil resistance. For heavy‑oil working conditions, please select gloves with extra oil‑repellent treatment.
Q3. Can welding gloves resist heavy impact and sharp punctures?
A: Leather offers good abrasion and heat protection. It cannot withstand heavy crushing or sharp punctures. Extra protective gear is required for high‑risk operations.
Q4. What international standards do the gloves comply with?
A: Our welding gloves meet EN 12477 (welding glove standard) and EN 388. Test reports are available upon request.
Q5. Will gloves become stiff and affect hand dexterity after long‑time use?
A: High‑quality cow leather keeps soft after repeated use. Light‑weight styles are recommended for fine‑operation welding work.
Q6. Will leather get hard in low‑temperature environments?
A: Genuine cow leather maintains flexibility under normal low‑temperature conditions. Fleece‑lined options are available for extremely cold working sites.
Q7. Do you support OEM customization?
A: Yes. We support custom leather grade, size, logo printing, cuff length and lining. Welcome to inquire about MOQ.
Q8. Which industries are suitable for welding gloves?
A: They are widely applied in welding, metal fabrication, foundry, construction, machinery repair and other high‑temperature work scenarios.
